We are having Band Instrument Nights for any interested 5th or 6th grader not currently in Band on Thursday, March 10 at Bonham, and Tuesday, March 22 at Lamar. This fun event will be held in the cafeteria from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. You can attend any tryout night, regardless of which Middle School your student plans to attend. Students who attend will receive a FREE Goodie Bag.

Our tryout nights are designed to help 5th and 6th graders choose an instrument that they will enjoy playing and with which they can be successful. It is especially important that they attend if they want to play percussion or saxophone. Even if you did not choose band on your choice sheets when you registered for Middle School, it's not too late - we can get your schedule adjusted.

Some important points:
Students DO NOT need to know how to play an instrument to be in band.

Is Band expensive? Not really! Sure, it will cost SOME money, but we are able to work out arrangements with a local music store and they are able to offer discounts on the purchase of an instrument or can set you up on an affordable monthly payment or rent-to-own plan. Also, a select number of school-owned instruments are available for students with great financial need as well as instruments that are too expensive to rent.

Traditionally, the Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone and Percussion are instruments that you would purchase or rent from a music store or some other source. We do have a limited number of these instruments available for rent from the school for those students with great financial need. Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Euphonium (Baritone) and Tuba are instruments that would be rented from the school band program.

Remember: Percussion isn't just drums. It's Bells, Xylophone, Timpani, Cymbals and so much more.
