TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple Independent School District is seeking community involvement in the naming process for the district’s newest elementary school. Construction of the new school was included in the TISD’s Bond 2022 proposal that was approved by voters on May 7th.
The new elementary school will be built on land the district already owns in the southeast quadrant and will be designated as a fine arts academy. The district’s current policy for naming facilities has been in effect since 2019 and allows for community members to submit nominations directly to the district for consideration. Anyone interested in submitting a name (or names) for consideration can access the nomination form through the TISD website at www.tisd.org. The naming facilities nomination form is located under the community tab on the website or may be accessed directly at the following link: Naming Facilities Nomination Form | Temple Independent School District (tisd.org).
In accordance with district policy, online nominations will be reviewed by the communications office to ensure that the form is complete before submissions are forwarded to the TISD policy committee. The policy committee will then review the list of recommended names and supporting information before submitting one name to the board of trustees for consideration and approval. The district is working to inform the public about the naming process and is hopeful that community members will actively participate in providing nominations for consideration.
“We have actively engaged the community throughout the bond process, and we certainly want that collaboration to continue now that the bond proposal has been approved,” said Dr. Bobby Ott, superintendent of schools for Temple ISD. “As I have said before, the school district’s role is to meet the expectations of our community and seeking input from stakeholders is an invaluable part of that process.”
The district hopes to have a name selected for the new school by the end of the summer so architects can build the name into the design before construction begins. The new elementary school is scheduled to open in the fall of 2024.
