TISD School Board Appoints Dawn Cook as District 5 Trustee

TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple Independent School District Board of Trustees has named Dawn Oldham Cook to serve as the Trustee for District 5 until the next board election in May 2023. Dr. Sandyha Sanghi, who was elected to the position in May 2021, resigned from the position effective August 23, 2022 after she accepted a job out of state.

In accordance with Temple ISD Board Policy BBC (LEGAL), if a vacancy occurs on the board, the remaining board members may fill the vacancy by appointment until the next trustee election. Upon receipt of Dr. Sanghi’s resignation letter at the July meeting of the Board of Trustees, an online application was posted and remained open through 5:00 pm on August 22 for interested residents. Two applications were received, and both candidates were interviewed by the Board on August 25.

Dan Posey, president of the Temple ISD board of trustees said, “It was clear in her interview that Dawn’s ideals are aligned with the values and beliefs of the community and our school district. She will be a great addition to the board as she offers a unique perspective as a former student, parent, volunteer and active community member.”

Serving the community has always been important to Cook. “My experience volunteering in the district has given me a better understanding of the needs of our students and their families, as well as the teachers and staff. I believe that if you want a better community, you need quality schools. TISD offers an excellent education, led by exceptional teachers and administration. I am excited to serve on the Temple ISD Board of Trustees representing District 5 to continue to foster this growth and success,” Cook said.

Cook was born and raised in Temple and she, along with her husband, Kirk, and two daughters, are all graduates of Temple High School.
