THS Theatre Arts Wins 31st Consecutive District One-Act Play Championship

TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple High School Theatre Arts Department extended its impressive streak by winning its 31st consecutive district One-Act Play Contest on Saturday (March 4). Temple High School won top honors on its home stage in the District 12-6A contest at the THS Auditorium.

Temple beat out six other schools in the competition to win first place with its performance of “Things I Know to Be True” by Andrew Bovell. In addition to winning the district championship, Temple High School also claimed several other honors during the competition. Thomas Painter was awarded Best Performer and Aracely Placencia was selected to the All-Star Technical Crew. Temple High School was also voted Best Tech Crew, Skyler Gordon was named to the All-Star Cast and Angel Santiago received Honorable Mention All-Star Cast recognition.

“Things I Know to Be True” follows the story and the many struggles of the Price family. The THS production features a cast and crew of 37 students. This was the first district competition for Temple High School with Kayla Stewart as Theatre Arts Director. Stewart took over the program following Natasha Tolleson’s retirement in the spring.

Temple High School will now advance to the Bi-District Contest on March 20-21st at Waxahachie High School.
