TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple High School band’s Centennial Celebration is now less than a month away. The Temple band started in 1923 and the current Temple High School band is honoring the milestone all football season long with a halftime show titled “Centennial” designed by THS band alum Weston Scholten. Alumni band members will be featured at the October 6th Homecoming football game, with a postgame mixer to follow. On Saturday, October 7th, there will be an Alumni Banquet Luncheon at Temple High School, followed by a tour of THS facilities.
The band is seeking alumni volunteers to assist with the planning and organizing for the event in several areas. Alumni volunteers are needed to help host the reception after the game on Friday night (October 6), organize the luncheon/banquet tentatively set for 11 – 1 on Saturday (October 7), and to help reach out to Wildcat Alumni. Also, if alumni have photos or video clips for a video that will be featured at halftime at the October 6th game, please send them in to former THS band director Brent Colwell at [email protected].
In addition, the band needs a volunteer to help run social media accounts to help spread the word about the events. Anyone interested in filling one of those roles is also asked to reach out to Colwell at [email protected].
“I am very excited to be able to be here as we celebrate a century of band in Temple High School,” said Brent Mathesen, current director of bands for Temple High School. “We have a strong tradition of great bands throughout the years in Temple and I am sure we have many alumni who would love to help with this upcoming event as we look to honor the band’s 100-year history and legacy.”
More information on the event schedule, ticket prices and how to register to participate in the event will be announced soon. The Centennial Celebration will take place on October 6-7th with events taking place at both the Temple High School Homecoming game against Midway High School on Friday night and on Saturday following the game.
