TEMPLE, Texas — Temple Independent School District Board President Dan Posey and Superintendent Bobby Ott had the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience with attendees at the Texas Association of School Administrators/Texas Association of School Boards (TASA/TASB) txEDCON 23 Convention Thursday evening (September 28).
Posey and Ott participated in a panel discussion titled “Boardroom to Classroom: Strategic Budgeting for Student and Organizational Success.” The discussion provided an opportunity for Ott and Posey to share stories and experiences with developing and adopting budgets that support advancement of the board adopted strategic plan. According to the panel description, developing and adopting a budget is a complex process requiring both strong governance and management, representing alignment and collaboration among the ‘Team of Eight.’ Some of the topics covered during the panel discussion included: balancing increased costs with stagnant state revenue, budgetary challenges that have been unique to TISD, maximizing community partnerships to provide opportunities for students, and clearly communicating the budget process with the community. The panel was designed to help attendees develop a new understanding about how to plan and budget in a way that demonstrates strategic and fiscal alignment from the boardroom to the classroom,
“It was an honor to be part of this panel and to share with other districts how Temple ISD prioritizes instruction throughout the budget planning process,” Posey said of the chance to participate on the panel. “We have earned a reputation in our community for demonstrating fiscal transparency and responsibility with how we allocate taxpayer dollars. Having our practices recognized by TASA/TASB is just another way that Temple ISD continues to lead the way locally, regionally, and across the state. It was also a great opportunity to learn from other leading districts, as we are always looking for ways to grow and improve.”
Ott and Posey were joined on the panel by representatives of the Carrolton-Farmers Branch ISD, and the discussion was moderated by TASA board members. The TISD Board of Trustees is attending the TASA/TASB Convention, which runs through Sunday in Dallas.
