TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple High School marching band has earned the right to advance to the Area round of the University Interscholastic League Marching Competition. The THS band advanced after an impressive performance at the UIL Region 8 marching contest on October 14th.
The Temple High School band received a Superior or first division rating at the Region 8 Contest at Midway High School’s Panther Stadium in Hewitt on Saturday. That rating qualifies the band to advance to the Area Marching Contest as one of five 6A bands to advance from the region competition. The UIL Area D Marching Band Contest will be held on Saturday, October 21st at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex in Austin. Temple ISD will be part of a 25-band field in the Area Contest and is scheduled to perform at 4:15 p.m. Bands advancing from the Area Contest will move on to the State Marching Contest in San Antonio on October 30-31st. The Temple High School band is celebrating its Centennial this school year and is performing a halftime show with the same title that highlights the band’s one-hundred-year history.
“We continue to tell our band students that they should soak up and enjoy every opportunity they get to perform with their peers in front of an audience,” said Brent Mathesen, director of bands for Temple High School. “Great bands rise to the occasion and celebrate their hard work by having fun during their performance. One of the adjudicators commented on how much fun the kids were having while they were performing and he, in turn, enjoyed our Region Marching performance even more! Our performances represent countless hours of preparation in some of the most exhaustive conditions we have had to endure this year and it was a joyous moment to watch them celebrate as a group.”
