Temple HS Band Advances to Area Marching Contest

TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple High School marching band has earned the right to advance to the Area round of the University Interscholastic League Marching Competition. The THS band advanced after an impressive performance at the UIL Region 8 marching contest on October 19th.

The Temple High School band received straight ones or the top ratings possible at the Region 8 Contest at Midway High School’s Panther Stadium in Hewitt on Saturday. That rating qualifies the band to advance to the Area Marching Contest and will be one of 28 bands to compete in that upcoming contest. The UIL Area D Marching Band Contest will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio. The full field and schedule for the Area D Contest will be announced later this week. Bands advancing from the Area Contest will move on to the State Marching Contest in San Antonio on November 11th. The Temple High School band is performing a show title “Bach to the Future” for UIL contests this school year.

“We are super proud of the kids for earning straight ones and advancing to the Area contest,” said Brent Mathesen, director of bands for Temple High School. “They have worked really hard this year, and you can tell that they have a drive for excellence that has really shown through their performance. We are really proud of them for advancing.”

“This process started with our design team in February of 2024, and it has been quite a journey bringing it to life,” added Marcos Duran, assistant director of bands for Temple High School. “Our students have bought in to the music-making process and have taken ownership for their brilliant contributions to make this show happen! We are excited to perform Bach to the Future at UIL Area Marching Contest and represent the Temple community with this opportunity.”
