Temple HS Theatre Arts to Host District One-Act Play Contest

TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple High School Theatre Arts Department will play host to the District 12-6A One-Act Play Contest next week. The contest will be held on Wednesday, March 26th, in the Temple High School Auditorium.

The district contest will feature seven schools performing. In addition to Temple High School, there will also be troupes from Bryan High School, Copperas Cove High School, Harker Heights High School, Killeen High School, Midway High School, and Shoemaker High School competing in the contest. Temple High School will open the day’s performances starting at 10:00 a.m. with the other starting times set for approximately every 55 minutes after that.

Temple High School will be performing scenes from “The Girl on the Train” in this year’s competition. The play features scenes from the 2016 film of the same name that was based on a 2015 novel by Paula Hawkins. Temple High School’s production features a cast and crew of 46 students and THS Theatre Arts Director Kayla Stewart is excited for the local community to have the opportunity to see the results of the troupe’s hard work.

“I think that our show is a story of female empowerment and I hope people take away the lesson that you can get out of some tough situations that come along in life,” Stewart said. “It is not like what we have done in the past, it is more of an intense thriller, and I hope people enjoy it and are excited to watch it. I am so excited, and the kids are so excited because they have put in so much work. I feel really, really good about the show, I have such strong kids in every role on the cast and crew. They have worked so hard, and I am just really excited for people to come see the show.”

Admission to the One-Act Play Contest is free. The top three schools in the district competition will advance to the Bi-District Contest on March 29th at Waxahachie High School.
