TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple High School Theatre Arts One-Act Play will advance to the Bi-District round of the University Interscholastic League One-Act Play contest after posting a top three finish at the District 12-6A competition Wednesday in Temple.
Temple High School is performing scenes from “The Girl On The Train” in this year’s competition. The play features scenes from the 2016 movie of the same name based on a 2015 novel by Paula Hawkins. Temple High School’s production features a cast and crew of 46 students, and in addition to advancing to Bi-District, several of those individuals also added honors at the District contest. Avery Morris and Chase Herrington were both named to the All-Star Cast and Konner Fraser was named Honorable Mention All-Star Cast. Alajzha President, who runs the projections for Temple High School’s production, was recognized on the All-Star Crew at the District contest.
“This is show is not like what we have done in the past, it is an intense thriller and kind of a murder mystery,” said Kayla Stewart, theatre arts director for Temple HS. “I am really excited, and I am so proud of our students because they have worked so hard. The actors, the technicians, everyone behind the scenes, everyone has just been incredible, and they’ve been working so hard.”
The Bi-District One-Act Play contest will be held at Waxahachie High School this Saturday, March 29th. Fellow district 12-6A competitors Bryan High School and Midway High School will join Temple, along with the top three schools from District 11-6A in this weekend’s competition. Temple High School is scheduled to perform at approximately 11:50 a.m. The top three schools from the Bi-District contest will move on to the Area competition at Midway High School on April 12th.
