Temple HS CTE Students Excel at SkillsUSA State Competition

TEMPLE, Texas — Temple High School Career and Technical Education students competed at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference in Corpus Christi recently and returned with a host of first place finishes and medalist performances.

Temple High School students competed in a variety of job exhibit and test categories across multiple CTE pathways during the contest. A total of 36 THS students posted award winning performances or ratings at the event.

From the manufacturing pathway, Madisyn Karkosky won first place in precision metal technology and is the first female from Temple High School to win a gold medal in that competition. From construction, Jesse Tipton, Bryson Bales, and Nate Valadez won first place honors while Adam Rodrigues and Makavian Harrison took second place honors and Bales added a third-place finish in cabinet making.

Cosmetology students Parrish Musick, Kendall Morgan, Amirah Parker, Vanessa Soto Hernandez, Natalia Denova, Mireyah Camarillo, and Angelina Silva all earned first place Superior ratings in their job exhibit competitions.

The Temple High School automotive department was represented by first place winners Dakota Dolt, Santiago Garcia-Munoz, Jonathan Lopez-Sotelo, Daniel Salinas, David Castillo, Kaili Tatum, Arianna Williams, Enrique Sisneros, Josiah Davis, Ducan Nelson, Riley Rager, Christopher Webster, Noah Ash, Osmar Ortiz, and Zakary Jarosek. Other automotive students earning medalist finishes were Georgina Martinez, Luis Juarez, Montae James, Emiliano Hernandez, Rolando Ramirez, Tylan Devlin, Angel Badillo-Loreto, and Leandro Matthews. Several automotive students won multiple medalist honors during the competition, and Jarosek also was a medalist in welding.

“SkillsUSA is a unique opportunity for students to display skills and talents learned in the classroom,” said Sara Bartlett, director of CTE for Temple ISD. “Each of these individuals advanced beyond district qualifications to the state competitions. With the support of our instructors, students experienced tough competition and exceeded our expectations. I am proud of the students and our instructors for their dedication to a variety of industries and producing enhanced skilled workers for the future of our community.”
