Temple ISD Board Meeting Recap: 9/12/16

The Temple ISD Board of Trustees had a very eventful meeting on Monday, 9/12/16.

Board President Steve Wright discussed Dr. Battershell being named one of five finalists for Texas Association of School Boards Superintendent of the Year. Dr. Battershell, along with the other four finalists, will interview on Friday, September 23, at the TASB Convention in Houston.

Mr. Wright discussed the positive changes Dr. Battershell's leadership and character have brought to Temple ISD.

The board also recognized Temple High School junior and Temple High School FFA President Courtney Massar for her selection to the National Future Farmers of America Band. Courtney is just one of 100 students from across the country selected for this honor! She will perform in October at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

THS Criminal Justice teacher Dr. Keith Parker gave a presentation about the P20 Central Texas Regional Council Teacher Externship he participated in last July. By working with area law enforcement in this unique opportunity presented by the P20 Central Texas Regional Council, Dr. Parker will be able to apply these real world scenarios to his Criminal Justice instruction.

The Board of Trustees set the tax rate per $100 of property valuation for the District for the tax year 2016 at a total tax rate of $1.40; $1.12 for the purpose of Maintenance & Operations, and
$0.28 for the purpose of payment of Debt Service (principal & interest on debts).  This is a process that began back in April, and continued with three public budget meetings in June.

The board also approved a resolution to authorize the sale of Bethune Early Childhood Campus at 510 East Avenue J, which is no longer in use by the school district.
