On Friday, January 6, 2017, at 7 pm, the Nugent Ave. crossing over I-35 will close to traffic in preparation for the demolition and rebuilding of the bridge.
The crossing is expected to be closed for 8 months.
While the crossing is closed, drivers on the northbound side of I-35 who need to travel west on Nugent will continue on the northbound frontage road and make a U-turn under the highway, and then travel south back to Nugent.
Those on the southbound side needing to travel east on Nugent will continue south to the Central Ave./Adams St. bridge, turn left at the light and then left again onto the northbound access road and continue north to Nugent.
A full mainline closure is planned for Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, for demolition of both the Nugent Ave. bridge and the out-of-service Industrial Blvd. bridge.
Beginning at 7 pm and ending at noon Sunday Jan. 8th, all southbound traffic will detour to Loop 363 around the west side of Temple.
All northbound traffic will exit the mainlanes just before Nugent (exit 302) and stay on the access road to the next entrance ramp.
Traffic will re-enter the mainlanes and then exit again about a mile later (at exit #303) to avoid the Industrial bridge demolition, going through the new Spur 290 intersection and re-entering the mainlanes before Loop 363.
Traffic will remain in a single-lane condition throughout the two detours for safety.
Significant delays are expected during this demolition process. Travelers should avoid the area, if possible, and seek alternate routes. Please allow for extra travel time through the area.
