Temple High School Artists Featured in Central Texas Art Competition & Exhibition

11/16/17

The art work of three Temple High School students is among the best in Central Texas this year.

Out of the more than 300 entries in the 38th Annual Central Texas Art Competition and Exhibition, THS Visual Arts students Lilly Driskell, Bianca Gutierrez, and Victoria Armanda all have several pieces of art displayed in the show.

Gutierrez’s self-portrait also won the award of excellence, and she received a cash prize of $125.

"I was really excited when I found out, especially because [THS Visual Arts teacher Stephen Bishop] didn't want me to submit that piece," Gutierrez said.  "But, I really like it, and like how it expresses me, so I went ahead of put it in for consideration."

Bishop guides students in a number of ways when he's teaching, so they create truly unique, original pieces of artwork.

"I offer advice, suggestions," he said. "In the end, it's up to the student to decide what speaks to them, and [Gutierrez] did when she submitted the self portrait, and she won it all."
